Announcing the 2019 Quip Diversity Scholarship

By Brina Lee

Diversity is absolutely essential to the success of any industry. But when it comes to actually building a diverse workforce, tech has too often fallen short. That's why, four years ago, we created the Quip Diversity Scholarship, and why we're excited and proud to announce that applications for 2019 are now being accepted through Wednesday, May 15 at 11:59pm Pacific Time.

We've seen firsthand how valuable it is to work alongside people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and we want to pay it forward by offering mentorship and financial assistance to underrepresented students who aspire to STEM careers. If that's you, apply! The future of tech depends on you!

Since creating the scholarship back in 2016, we've had students fly in from all over the world to immerse themselves in the San Francisco tech space, collaborate with each other, and share how they're using their talents.  We've met so many amazing individuals along the way, cried reading their stories, and loved every one of these students who we've both mentored and learned from.

How the scholarship works

The Quip team will review applications, choose winners and runners-up, and then invite them to our office in San Francisco for a full day of all-expenses-paid learning and mentorship. Each scholarship winner will receive $5,000 and each runner-up will receive $1,000 toward their education.

We're looking for applicants who:

  • Are part of a group that has been historically underrepresented in STEM (including but not limited to: Women, Black, LatinX, Native American, first-generation college students, LGBTQ+, and/or people with disabilities)
  • Have demonstrated interest or declaration of studying computer science or a related field.
  • Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate or masters student in the U.S. or Canada, graduating in 2020 or later. We are also accepting applications from students who are currently enrolled in or accepted into a full-time, onsite cohort in one of these coding programs.

We're looking forward to your applications!
